Ryder Cup 2025

Ryder Cup Report
This year’s Ryder Cup once again went right down to the wire, with the Saucers securing victory by just four points. As you can see, Fred Hughes was jubilant after bravely battling on his own against Phil Maitland and Mark Langton — and even managing to take a valuable point off them!
Our manager, Jon Farmer, who presented the prizes, did manage to coax a smile from Phil despite his disappointment at surrendering the trophy after looking after it so well for the past 12 months.
We were also treated to a Ryder Cup Quiz from Jon. However, with such a knowledgeable senior section, it proved to be no problem for the boys!
The format was once again well received, and — thankfully — everyone had taken the time to study the rules document, meaning no explanations were needed before the start.
Congratulations to our nearest-the-pin winners: Martyn Whalley on the 7th and Joe Curl on the 13th. Neither hole is easy to hit the green on, let alone get close to the pin — so well done to them both.
Here’s hoping the European Ryder Cup team can do us proud this year!

RYDER CUPPA RULES

The competition is based on a similar format to the Ryder Cup but instead of it being over 3 days it is over 18 holes of 3 sections all of which are match play over 6 holes sections and so there is  no need to keep individual scores. Your score card and shots are based on whatever tee you elected to play from and handicaps are as they were on 12th September.
The first 6 holes will be foursomes, the next 6 holes will be pairs match play and the last 6 holes will be singles match play.
In the singles matches player A will play player C and player B will play player D.
There will be 2 points awarded for each of the 3 sections, for halved matches it will be 1 point each team or player.
During the round you will have 3 handicaps so fairly straight forward.
For the first 6 holes it will be 50% of the difference of the 2 combined handicaps.
For the second 6 holes it will be 90% of the difference from the lowest handicap of the 4 players.
For the last 6 holes it will be the full difference.
Now only one card needs to be handed in but someone from both sides must sign it.
Obviously, you can decide yourself who marks the card but I suggest whoever does it is the one who went to bed early the night before.
You will have a normal scorecard Men’s Blue & Mens Green so we just need it returning with points for each section.
If you want to check your Playing Handicaps for the competitions you can check them using the TPGC Eagle App Handicap Calculator, Link Belown - no changes will be made on the day.
