Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. Members, staff, volunteers, coaches and visitors all play a part in keeping the club a safe place to play, work and socialise.

01 · Our commitment

A safe, inclusive club

Trentham Park Golf Club follows England Golf's safeguarding framework. We have adopted policies for safeguarding children and young people and for safeguarding adults, and we appoint a Club Welfare Officer to oversee them.

01

Welfare comes first

The welfare of children, young people and adults at risk is paramount in everything the club does.

02

Everyone is respected

Everyone has the right to be protected from harm, abuse and discrimination, whatever their age, ability or background.

03

Concerns are acted on

Any concern raised is taken seriously and handled promptly, sensitively and in line with our procedures.

04

Working together

We work with England Golf, parents, carers and, where needed, statutory agencies to keep people safe.

02 · Club Welfare Officer

Who to talk to

Our Club Welfare Officer is Jon Farmer. The role covers both children and adults, and Jon is the first point of contact for any safeguarding or welfare concern at the club.

The Club Welfare Officer:

  • receives and records concerns and makes sure they are acted on;
  • liaises with England Golf's safeguarding team and, where necessary, children's or adult social care and the police;
  • helps make sure the club's safeguarding policies are followed and kept up to date;
  • supports members, staff and volunteers who work with juniors or adults at risk;
  • promotes good practice and a positive, welcoming club culture.

Can't reach the Welfare Officer?

If the Club Welfare Officer is unavailable, or your concern is about them, contact England Golf's safeguarding team directly at safeguarding@englandgolf.org.

03 · Children & young people

Safeguarding juniors

Our policy for safeguarding children and young people applies to anyone under 18 who plays, practises, has lessons or takes part in activities at the club.

What parents and carers can expect

  • junior activities and coaching delivered in line with England Golf guidance;
  • a named Club Welfare Officer you can speak to in confidence;
  • clear expectations of behaviour for adults, coaches and juniors;
  • photographs and personal information of juniors handled responsibly and with consent;
  • any concern about a young person's welfare dealt with promptly and sensitively.

04 · Adults at risk

Safeguarding adults

Our adult safeguarding policy covers adults who may be at risk of harm or abuse, for example because of illness, disability, age or personal circumstances.

Adults have the right to make their own choices, and we will always try to involve the person concerned and respect their wishes, unless they or others are at risk of serious harm.

05 · Raising a concern

What to do if you're worried

If someone is in immediate danger

Call 999 straight away, then let the Club Welfare Officer know as soon as it is safe to do so.

  1. Stay calm and listen If someone tells you something, listen carefully and reassure them they were right to tell you. Do not promise to keep it secret.
  2. Don't investigate Avoid asking leading questions or confronting anyone involved. That is the job of the appropriate agencies.
  3. Write it down Note what was said or seen, when and where, using the person's own words where possible. Sign and date your note.
  4. Tell the Club Welfare Officer Report it to Jon Farmer as soon as possible. If that isn't possible, contact England Golf's safeguarding team.

Concerns are shared only with those who need to know in order to keep people safe.
